At Lone Star Transportation, hauling oversized freight is no issue for a handful of hardworking women. Oversize freight is a hot commodity in the transportation industry mainly because of the pay involved with hauling the oversized load. But make no mistake, with a higher rate comes higher demands on the driver.

Lone Star Transportation specializes in a variety of oversized freight. What was once known as a “man’s job” is being tackled by nine women drivers. In March they received six female driver applications.

Lone Star has developed a program to train drivers on how to handle the larger loads and the responsibilities that go along with it. The training process from level one to level five takes four to five years to achieve.
