Drivers, and Just About Everyone Else, Show Their Support for Transportation Bill
As the new transportation bill moves to the House for consideration, groups from nearly every corner and every sector of the country have come out in support of the plan. And the trucking industry is at the head of the crowd.
Truckinginfo reports that biggest direct impact on drivers would actually be new driver compliance rules, giving legislative backing to the recent moves by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
But while drivers might be met with some new rules, the bill provides billions of dollars set aside for the upgrades to the aging interstate highways and freight shipping infrastructure as a whole.
“The highway bill passed by the Senate is an example of how things should work in Washington,” Bill Graves, the president and CEO of the American Trucking Associations (ATA), said in a statement. “As representatives of the trucking industry, we’re particularly pleased to see this bill provide not just attention to - but $2 billion a year in funding for - highway freight-specific projects, reforms and consolidates redundant programs, speeds project approval.”
